Tigers & Cavs Connect on Common Ground

On October 21, the Chillicothe Fitness & Racquet Club hosted students from the Pioneer Center and the Chillicothe High School tennis team for what has become an annual event. Many of the students involved have participated in this event before, so as soon as stepped on the court they were ready to get started.

The day began with some racquet handling and accuracy skills using balloons. It wasn’t long before the balloons were gone and the tennis balls were out. Smiles and laughter were as pervasive as the day-glo yellow balls that canvassed the court. CHS players took one side of the net with the pioneer students on the other for some passing drills. After completing a host of drills, the CHS team demonstrated their skills in a couple games, including “round robin” and “knock em’ stiff”, while Pioneer students watched and cheered. After a morning full of physical activity the kids topped off their day with pizza, cookies, and pop – a well-deserved treat!

The Pioneer Center would like to sincerely thank Fitness & Racquet Club, tennis pro Erin Cook, Janet Disbennet, and the student athletes for their continued support and generosity. The Tigers can’t wait to see their friends from CHS again next year!

CHS is one of several schools in Ross County who spend time with their peers at Pioneer, sharing their love of a sport and teaches them some tricks of the trade. In the past, several SVC schools have participated in sports, arts, and music-based activities with the Pioneer students.
