Summer Activities – 2016


Camp Cattail – Established in 1985 ,Camp Cattail provides outdoor recreational activities for children and adults with disabilities and their families in Ross County and surrounding areas. The camp is located near Pioneer School at 322 Cattail Rd., Chillicothe, OH. Adults will be spending one week (June 13-18, 9am-12pm).

Children –  June 6-10 (9am-12pm) Kids will enjoy a variety of activities including fishing, hiking, outdoor games, crafts, and more!

Camp Cattail is not operated by The Pioneer Center. To participate in this camp, or for any questions, call Jenna Riffle at 740-703-0552. 

Camp Explore– June 6-17, M-Th, (9am-12pm)- This camp designed as an alternative to our Camp Cattail experience. Any child that receives services from Pioneer who has a medical issue that prevents them from participating at Camp Cattail may attend this camp free of charge.

Pony Camp– July 11-15 (9am-12pm) Is camp is open to the public. We will only accept 30 kids this summer. Housed at the Black Farm.

Friendship Club– July 18-22 (9am-1pm) Friendship Club is a week-long integrated program with Pioneer School students and their peers from YMCA Summer Camp. Most activities are held at the YMCA facility. We only accept students receiving our services. But any other family can attend the camp that week through the YMCA along with their fee.

Affiliates’ Opportunities: 

YMCA Summer Camp – Kids attending this day camp take part in the aforementioned friendship club. This club runs all summer (June 6 – August 19). For more information click here for the brochure.

Football and Cheer Camp -Students will pair up with a CHS football players and/or cheerleaders.  Learn how to use the gym equipment, wear the football helmets and pads, use the pom-poms, learn cheers and football drills. Register by calling Ric McConnell at Pioneer Center @ 740-773-2165 ASAP.
