Pioneer School operates 11 school-age classrooms located at Pioneer School, 1 Elementary Classroom housed at Tiffin, 1 High School Satellite Classroom housed at Chillicothe High School and 1 Elementary Satellite Classroom housed at Paint Valley Elementary. Each classroom has a maximum of 8 students, allowing our dedicated staff to make each student a priority.

Pioneer School maintains a positive environment that is caring, student-centered, and progressive. When you walk through our doors, you feel something special. Our students receive direct specially designed instruction from certified Special Education Teachers, also called Intervention Specialists. Teachers modify or adapt instructions/materials, products and assessments to meet the learning needs for each individual according to their Individualized Education Plan or IEP. Pioneer School also offers a variety of programming options such as Speech Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, Music Therapy, Behavior Intervention Services, Deaf Services, Recreational Programming and Vocational Training. Programming options are available on-site and in the community if contracted by a student’s home school district.

CURRICULUM: Regardless of the various academic levels, each classroom utilizes the Unique Learning System, a curriculum based on Ohio’s Learning Standards that adapts lessons to meet the individual needs of every student. The Unique Learning System has a built in tracking process that identifies individual student goals, preferences, and skills. We use five grade bands: Elementary (K-2), Intermediate (Gr. 3-5), Middle School (6-8), High School (9-12), and Transition Band (12+). The Unique Curriculum provides our students with quality instructional resources and learning materials to prepare them for daily living needs and vocational opportunities upon graduation from our program at age 22.
