Future Superintendent Learning on the Job

leia snyder

When it comes to getting acclimated to a new job, Pioneer Center assistant superintendent Leia Snyder feels her situation couldn’t be any better.

Snyder, who came on board in March, will benefit from the experience of longtime Superintendent Rick Marriott as she prepares to take over his position in January.

“I am very fortunate, because a lot of places when you take over a leadership position, day one it’s ‘here you go, hit the ground running,’” Snyder said. “I have had the opportunity to go out and meet with staff one on one and my goal is to meet with everybody face to face and just get to know a little bit more about them and how they became a part of our agency and let them get to know me a little better. That’s really a luxury a lot of people don’t get.”

Celebrating the Week of the Young Child

As part of the celebration for  “The Week of the Young Child”, Ohio University-Chillicothe (OU-C) has a full schedule of events this week for preschool students who attend the Early Childhood Center (ECC), including the integrated classes run by the Pioneer Center.

The Week of the Young Child was established in 1971 to focus public attention on the needs of young children and their families, and to recognize that the early childhood years are important in the foundation for children’s success in school and later life.

There will be fun activities that run all week at OU-C’s ECEC, including a book fair. Laura Wetterson a librarian from the Chillicothe Public Library came to kick off the week by reading to the children this morning. The preschoolers were then treated to a special music and movement event by the Pioneer Center’s Music Therapy Department.
