Tigers & ‘Toppers Take the Field

While the “boys of summer” may be winding down their season (in Ohio anyway), for the students at The Pioneer Center, September marks the time to take the field. Coach George Beck, Head Coach for the Ohio University Hilltoppers Softball Team, and 6 of his players invited some Pioneer Tigers to join them for a special practice and exhibition at VA Memorial Stadium, home of the Chillicothe Paints, last Friday.

Six Freshman players took part in the outing: Kyia Burgin, Outfield; Brantly Warren, Second Base; Hannah Ray, Catcher/Third Base; Kendra Barnes, Shortstop; Jessica Harold, Pitcher/First Base, and Brooke Blevins, a Senior at Unioto, who joined the players for this special day.

After the players introduced themselves to students, it was time to get their blood pumping with a lap around the infield, followed by a series of stretching exercises before moving on to various drills including a trip to the batting cages. For many of the Pioneer Tigers, it was their first time on Astroturf or having the opportunity to play on a field so large. For those reasons, and many more evidenced by the smiles in the accompanying photos, it was indeed a day to remember.

Thank you to Coach George, the players, and everyone who had a hand in making this special event happen!

Take Our Strategic Planning Survey

The Ross County Board of Developmental Disabilities (RCBDD), also known as the Pioneer Center, is completing a strategic plan to guide the agency’s future work.  Input from people we serve, families, partners and community members is very important to us and will be used when creating our strategic plan.  Please follow the link below to complete the survey (it will only take 2 minutes). If you have any problems with the survey or questions, please contact Patrick McFadden. Thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts!
